Nowadays, whether in luxury homes or ordinary homes, the use of marble as decoration materials has become more and more popular. Marble as a decoration material can bring elegant and beautiful effects, but beauty is often backed by money.

Marble is hard, which is one of the reasons why people choose it as a decoration material in their homes, although marble is strong, beautiful and elegant, it is a relatively sensitive material, and it can usually be described by the word "soft on the outside and rigid on the inside". The marble is the inside, but the polished exterior is extremely fragile and requires special care, to prevent marks from being left when stepping on it, and to place objects on it with care.

What causes damage to marble slabs?

In this section you will learn what causes marble damage and what can be done to prevent it. Only by knowing what causes the damage can we take the next step in protecting it.

1. Water and moist substances

Water does not appear to pose a threat to the beautiful and elegant surface of marble, but in fact it is deceived by the superficial phenomenon, and water has enough power to destroy the beautiful marble slabs. Water or other damp substances mixed into the glass can leave limescale on the marble surface, which will slowly penetrate the entire marble surface and leave stains that are difficult to erase.

A good way to deal with this is to avoid water droplets dripping on the marble slab, but this is often not possible in practice, so what you can do is to wipe off the water droplets on it in time to prevent further water soaking.

2. Acidic and alkaline substances

When cleaning marble slabs, use neutral detergents, both acidic and alkaline detergents can easily corrode the surface of the marble.

Of course, it is not only detergents that will corrode the surface of marble, such as some pH-acidic substances such as orange juice, lemon juice, soft drink, apple juice, tomato juice, wine, etc., will corrode the surface of marble, and those PH-alkaline bleaching agents will also corrode marble.

3. Scratches

Marble is the inside, there is no doubt about it, but the smooth surface is very fragile, and it is easy to leave scratches if the sole of the shoe is sticking to the sand, and the bottom of the furniture can also leave scratches on the surface of the marble if it is not placed protectively, and there are also objects dragged on the marble floor.

The most basic way to protect is to shake off the sand stuck to the soles of your shoes before stepping on the floor, put a protective layer on the furniture, and try to avoid dragging animals on the marble floor, especially if there are things with sharp edges. Of course, there are other substances that can pose a threat to marble, but as long as you pay attention to some of the details mentioned above, it can bring a lot of use to your marble protection.
